Hyundai Sonata Tire Pressure Guide
Lake-effect cold snaps can drop tire pressure fast. This guide lists the recommended cold tire pressure for the 2027 Sonata by tire size, shows which tire each trim uses, and explains how to check pressure, adjust for cold weather and read the tire pressure monitor. It is based on the 2027 Sonata owner's manual and hyundaiusa.com, read November 3, 2026. Other model years and the Sonata Hybrid can differ.
What is the tire pressure for a Hyundai Sonata?
The 2027 Sonata owner's manual lists 35 psi (240 kPa) cold for the front and rear tires on every listed size, from the 205/65 R16 to the 245/40 R19, at normal and maximum load. The compact spare, if equipped, takes 60 psi (420 kPa). The tire label on the driver's side center pillar shows the pressure for your car.
2027 Sonata tire pressure by tire size
| Tire size | Wheel size | Cold pressure, front and rear |
|---|---|---|
| 205/65 R16 | 6.5J X 16 | 35 psi (240 kPa) |
| 215/55 R17 | 7.0J X 17 | 35 psi (240 kPa) |
| 235/45 R18 | 7.5J X 18 | 35 psi (240 kPa) |
| 245/40 R19 | 8.0J X 19 | 35 psi (240 kPa) |
| Compact spare T125/80 D16 (if equipped) | 4.0T X 16 | 60 psi (420 kPa) |
From the Tires And Wheels table in chapter 2 of the 2027 Sonata owner's manual, read November 3, 2026. The manual lists the same pressure at normal load and at maximum load. It lists wheel nut torque of 79-94 lbf·ft (11-13 kgf·m, 107-127 N·m).
All tire sizes and pressures for your car are also on the label on the driver's side center pillar.
Which tire your 2027 Sonata has
| 2027 Sonata trim | Wheels and tires | Spare |
|---|---|---|
| SE | 16-inch alloy, 205/65 R16 | Tire Mobility Kit (TMK) |
| SEL Sport | 18-inch alloy, 235/45 R18 | Compact temporary-use spare, T125/80 D16 |
| N Line | 19-inch alloy, 245/40 R19 | Tire Mobility Kit (TMK) |
From the Wheels and Tires rows of the 2027 Sonata features and specs on hyundaiusa.com, read November 3, 2026. Every trim lists a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with individual tire indicator as standard. The Sonata Hybrid has its own owner's manual and is not covered here.

How to check Sonata tire pressure
The 2027 Sonata manual says to check every tire, including the spare, at least once a month, with a good quality tire pressure gauge, when the tires are cold. You cannot tell if a tire is properly inflated just by looking at it.
- Let the tires cool. The manual defines cold tires as a vehicle that has not been driven for at least three hours, or has been driven less than 1 mile (1.5 km).
- Remove the valve cap and press the gauge firmly onto the valve stem to read the pressure.
- Compare the reading with the pressure on the tire label on the driver's side center pillar. If it is low, add air until it reaches the recommended pressure.
- If you overfill, release air by pushing on the metal stem in the center of the valve, then recheck with the gauge.
- Put the valve caps back on. Without the cap, dirt or moisture can get into the valve core and cause air leakage.
Warm tires normally read 4 to 6 psi (28 to 41 kPa) higher than the recommended cold pressure. The manual says not to release air from warm tires to adjust the pressure, because the tires would then be under-inflated.
Cold weather and snow tires
| Situation | Per the 2027 Sonata manual |
|---|---|
| Colder temperatures expected soon | It is permissible to add 3 psi (20 kPa) to the standard tire pressure specification. |
| Temperature drops | Tires typically lose 1 psi (7 kPa) for every 12 °F (7 °C) temperature drop. Recheck pressures when big temperature swings are expected. |
| Low tire pressure light on a cold morning | The light may come on in cold weather if the pressure was set in warm weather. That does not mean the TPMS is malfunctioning; check and adjust the pressure to the recommended level. |
| Snow tires | Snow tires should carry 4 psi (28 kPa) more than the pressure recommended for the standard tires on the tire label, or up to the maximum pressure on the tire sidewall, whichever is less. Do not drive faster than 75 mph (120 km/h) on snow tires. |
| Maximum pressure | Do not exceed the maximum inflation pressure shown on the tire sidewall. |
From the Tires And Wheels, Tire Pressure Monitoring System and Maintenance sections of the 2027 Sonata owner's manual, read November 3, 2026.
Sonata tire pressure monitor (TPMS)
The 2027 Sonata manual says you can check tire pressure in the Utility view mode on the cluster. The pressures appear after a few minutes of driving; if they do not appear while the car is stopped, the message "Drive to display" appears. The displayed values may differ from those measured with a tire gauge.
To change the pressure unit, the manual gives this infotainment path: Setup > General > Unit > Tire Pressure Unit > psi/kPa/bar.
When the low tire pressure telltale comes on, the manual says to stop and check your tires as soon as possible and inflate them to the proper pressure. The TPMS is not a substitute for proper tire maintenance. For other cluster lights, see our Hyundai warning lights guide.

Hyundai Sonata tire pressure questions
What should the tire pressure be on a Hyundai Sonata?
The 2027 Sonata owner's manual lists 35 psi (240 kPa) cold for the front and rear full-size tires, at normal and maximum load, on every listed tire size: 205/65 R16, 215/55 R17, 235/45 R18 and 245/40 R19. Always confirm with the tire label on the driver's side center pillar of your car.
Is the front and rear tire pressure the same on a Sonata?
Yes. The 2027 Sonata manual lists 35 psi (240 kPa) for both the front and rear full-size tires.
What pressure does the Sonata compact spare need?
The 2027 Sonata manual says the compact spare (T125/80 D16, if equipped) should be inflated to 60 psi (420 kPa). On hyundaiusa.com the 2027 SEL Sport lists a compact temporary-use spare, and the SE and N Line list a Tire Mobility Kit instead.
Where can I see tire pressure in a Sonata?
The 2027 Sonata manual says you can check tire pressure in the Utility view mode on the instrument cluster. The pressures appear after a few minutes of driving, and the displayed values may differ from a tire gauge reading.
Should I add air to my Sonata tires in winter?
The 2027 Sonata manual says it is permissible to add 3 psi (20 kPa) to the standard specification if colder temperatures are expected soon, and that tires typically lose 1 psi (7 kPa) for every 12 °F (7 °C) drop. Never exceed the maximum pressure on the tire sidewall.
