Hyundai says engine oil is consumed during driving, so check the level regularly, and never add additives to the engine oil. If the recommended engine oil is not used, the manual says to replace it on the severe usage interval.

Palisade inspection intervals

Hyundai says the drive belt should be replaced when cracks occur or tension is reduced, and that the rear differential oil and transfer case oil should be changed anytime they have been submerged in water. The fuel filter and fuel tank air filter are considered maintenance free, but Hyundai says to replace the fuel filter immediately if there is fuel flow restriction, surging, loss of power or hard starting.

Severe usage schedule

Severe conditions in the manual: repeated short trips of less than 5 mi (8 km) in normal temperatures or less than 10 mi (16 km) in freezing temperatures; extensive idling or low-speed driving for long distances; rough, dusty, muddy, unpaved, graveled or salt-spread roads; areas using salt or other corrosive materials, or very cold weather; sand or dust getting into the engine; heavy traffic; uphill, downhill or mountain roads; towing, camping or loads on the roof; patrol car, taxi or other commercial use; frequent high speeds or rapid acceleration and deceleration; frequent stop-and-go driving; and engine oil that is not recommended. Hyundai also says to use the severe schedule after more than 10 years or 100,000 mi.

Owner checks between services

The 2027 Palisade manual also lists checks you can do yourself. At least twice a year, check the radiator, heater and air conditioning hoses for leaks or damage, the windshield washer spray and wiper operation, the headlight alignment, the muffler, exhaust pipes, shields and clamps, and the seat belts for wear and function.

At least once a year, the manual lists cleaning the body and door drain holes, lubricating the door and hood hinges, locks, latches and door weather strips, checking the air conditioning system, inspecting and lubricating the automatic transmission linkage and controls, cleaning the battery and terminals, and checking the brake fluid level.
