Hyundai Digital Key Guide: Phone and Card Key
With Hyundai Digital Key, a supported smartphone or an NFC card key can do the smart key's everyday jobs. Below are the registration steps, how locking and starting differ for NFC and Ultra Wide Band phones, shared keys, card keys and the checks to make on a used Hyundai. The digital key steps here come from the 2027 Palisade owner's manual, read October 26, 2026. Menus and features vary by model and equipment, so keep your own manual handy.
How do I add Hyundai Digital Key to my phone?
Download the Bluelink app and sign up for a Hyundai account and service. Turn the vehicle on with your smart key and keep it with you inside, shift to P (Park), and open Setup > Vehicle > Digital Keys > Smartphone Key > My Smartphone Key on the infotainment screen. In the Bluelink app select More > Vehicle Digital Key and follow the phone's prompts, then press Save on the infotainment screen. That is the 2027 Palisade owner's manual procedure.
Register your smartphone as a digital key
Digital key functions on the phone come from the phone maker, and Hyundai says compatible phone brands and models are listed on the phone makers' websites or Hyundai's website. Install the Bluelink app and sign up for a Hyundai account and service before you start. The 2027 Palisade manual then lists four steps:
- Turn the vehicle on with a smart key, and keep the smart key with you in the vehicle. Hyundai says registration does not start without a smart key in the vehicle.
- Shift to P (Park) and select Setup > Vehicle > Digital Keys > Smartphone Key > My Smartphone Key on the infotainment system.
- In the Bluelink app, select More > Vehicle Digital Key and follow the guidance on the phone. If your phone does not support Ultra Wide Band (UWB), lay it screen up on the wireless charging pad (Hyundai's vehicle authentication pad) with the phone's NFC antenna touching the pad. A UWB phone can register from anywhere inside the vehicle.
- Press Save on the infotainment system. A message confirms the key is saved.
Hyundai says saving can cancel if the phone comes off the pad, the infotainment screen changes, the vehicle is turned off or the gear is shifted. Some phones' NFC may not connect at first; moving the phone to the left or right on the pad can help. To switch to a different phone, delete your current phone key first. Blue Link basics are on our Blue Link page.
Locking, unlocking and starting
How you use a phone key depends on whether the phone supports Ultra Wide Band; the phone maker can tell you.
| Task | NFC phone (no UWB) | UWB phone |
|---|---|---|
| Lock or unlock | Hold the phone's NFC antenna on the driver's or passenger's door handle authentication pad for more than 2 seconds. | Carry the phone and touch the lock/unlock sensor (the engraved part) on the door handle. |
| 2-Press Unlock set | The first touch unlocks only the driver's door; touch the driver's pad again within 4 seconds to unlock all doors. | The manual describes 2-Press Unlock for NFC use. |
| Start | Place the phone on the wireless charging pad, press the brake pedal and press Engine Start/Stop. The phone can come off the pad once the vehicle is on. | With the phone inside the vehicle, press the brake pedal and press Engine Start/Stop. |
| Remote start | Not listed for NFC. | In the phone maker's app, lock the vehicle with Door Lock, then press Remote Start; the hazard lights blink. Press Remote Start again to turn it off. |
| Liftgate | Not listed for NFC. | With the vehicle locked, press the Liftgate Open button while carrying the phone. With Smart Liftgate set, stand in the detecting area behind the liftgate for more than 3 seconds. |
From the Hyundai Digital Key section of the 2027 Palisade owner's manual, read October 26, 2026. Hyundai says UWB phone keys work only while the phone is connected to the vehicle by Bluetooth, and that Remote Start, Panic or Frunk/Liftgate open may not be available depending on the country or vehicle type (hybrid, plug-in hybrid or electric). Unlocked doors re-lock after 30 seconds if no door is opened.
You cannot lock with the phone key while the smart key is in the vehicle, the Engine Start/Stop button is in ACC or ON, or any door, the hood or the liftgate is open. If an NFC touch does not work, move the phone more than 4 inches away from the pad and try again. Hyundai also notes that a phone in a back pocket or bag can weaken the Bluetooth connection or delay locking and start-up.
Register and use an NFC card key (if equipped)
Hyundai says card key availability differs by country. Per the 2027 Palisade manual, to register one:
- Have both of your smart keys with you in the vehicle.
- Go to Setup > Vehicle > Digital Keys > NFC Card Key and check that Enable Card Key is selected.
- With the engine on, place the card key on the wireless charging pad.
- Select Vehicle > Digital Keys > NFC Card Key > Save in the Settings menu.
Only one card key can be registered to a vehicle; to replace it, delete the existing card first. A registered card cannot be registered to another vehicle, though it can be re-registered to the original one. Use it like an NFC phone: hold it on the door handle pad for more than 2 seconds, or set it on the charging pad, press the brake and press Engine Start/Stop. Hyundai says to keep it out of direct sunlight and high heat, take it off the pad after starting, and not to leave it between a charging phone and the pad, such as attached to the back of a phone case.
Deleting digital keys
Turn the vehicle on with a smart key and keep it with you, then use these infotainment menus from the 2027 Palisade manual.
Your own phone key
Setup > Vehicle > Digital Keys > Smartphone Key > My Smartphone Key > Delete. A new phone can be registered after this.
All phone keys
Setup > Vehicle > Digital Keys > Smartphone Key > Delete All.
A group of shared keys
Setup > Vehicle > Digital keys > Smartphone key > Shared keys > [Group] > Delete All.
The card key
Setup > Vehicle > Digital Keys > NFC Card Key > Delete.
Hyundai says deleting a key in the vehicle also deletes it from the phone, and the reverse. Deleting the Bluelink app does not remove the key from the phone; manage it in the phone maker's digital key app.
Buying a used Hyundai with Digital Key
If any smartphone or card key is still registered, the 2027 Palisade manual says a "Digital key registered" message appears once on the infotainment screen when the Engine Start/Stop button is in ON after the doors are unlocked. When you buy a used Hyundai, look for that message, delete the previous owner's smartphone and card keys, and let Hyundai Customer Care know about the used-vehicle purchase. If a card key came with the vehicle, check that it works.
When a digital key may not work
The 2027 Palisade manual lists these conditions:
- The phone battery or the vehicle battery is discharged
- NFC or Bluetooth is turned off in the phone's settings
- A credit card is near the phone, or the phone is in a metal or thick case (remove a metal case or one that uses wireless communication)
- The card key is in a wallet or card holder, or overlapping other cards
- Electronic interference from other vehicles or objects
- Other phone functions are running, such as calls, audio, NFC payment or wireless earphones
Hyundai also cautions that carrying a registered UWB phone within the vehicle's Bluetooth range for a long time can drain the low-voltage battery; turning off the digital key's passive entry in the phone's wallet app prevents that. If the cluster shows "Check user authentication system", Hyundai says to have the system inspected by an authorized Hyundai dealer. Hyundai Digital Key questions
What does Hyundai Digital Key let me do?
The 2027 Palisade owner's manual says a digital key can lock or unlock the driver and passenger doors or the liftgate and turn on the vehicle. It comes in two forms: a smartphone key and, if equipped, an NFC card key.
Where do I start digital key setup in the Bluelink app?
In the 2027 Palisade manual, you select More > Vehicle Digital Key in the Bluelink app after opening Setup > Vehicle > Digital Keys > Smartphone Key > My Smartphone Key on the infotainment screen. You need the Bluelink app and a Hyundai account and service first.
Where is the NFC antenna on my phone?
It varies by phone, so Hyundai says to ask the phone maker. The manual gives three examples: on a Samsung phone, see Settings > Connections > NFC and contactless payments; on a Google Pixel, Settings > Connected devices > Connection preference > NFC; on an Apple iPhone it is at the top of the rear.
Why did a shared digital key not work the first time?
Hyundai says a shared smartphone key can take longer to activate the first time. Hold it on the door handle pad until the doors lock or unlock. If its first use is on the wireless charging pad, the first start may fail. After one lock/unlock or one start, the shared key is registered in the vehicle.
Can I link my phone key to my driver profile?
Yes. The 2027 Palisade manual says to select Setup > User Profile > Driver 1 > Link Digital Key (Smartphone), then pick the key group. A card key cannot be linked to a user profile.
What does "Check user authentication system" mean?
The 2027 Palisade manual says this cluster message appears if there is a problem with the digital key system, and to have the system inspected by an authorized Hyundai dealer.
